I scrapbook because...

As I cleaned out my tote last night in preparation for this weekend's Savvy Delights Retreat, I really started to think....WHY do I have all this stuff and why do I continue to this thing called 'scrapbooking'?!

The answer for me is easy.  I scrapbook every week of my life FOR MY FAMILY.  I am in charge of telling their stories and keeping their memories alive well after I'm no longer here to tell them.  No one else is going to remember that funny thing they said or write down all the important milestones of their existence.  Sure, their dad would try to tell them their stories if I wasn't here.....but dads just don't tell stories like mums, do they!

Everything else that comes with it....the 'pretties', the friends all around the country, the creative 'out' is all an added bonus for me.  Bonuses that I love and cherish with all my heart of course....but at the end of the day my scrapbooking is about me and my family.  And this will always be the main reason I pull out that kit, order that new stuff, go to a class....to find another way, a better way, a different way to scrapbook for my family.

Today I was lucky enough to enjoy a day scrapbooking with my bestie Linda and my mum, chatting & laughing and creating together.  I am very blessed to be able to do this in the comfort of my home, running my business for the joy of it, and at the same time playing with the kids and just hanging out at home.

I pulled out a kit today that had an almost finished page in it...I have NO idea when I started it, but I added a title and called it done.  I then created another page with the same kit and some added extras.   This range was Lily Bee Design This & That, an older range but I have no problem with using up my older stash...I have enough of it that's for sure!!!

The nearly finished is this one, called 'A Little Bit Alike', a photo of my Georgia & I back in 2010.

A closeup of my cluster including 'A Lil Somethin' button...

6/u - a page of my boy three years ago when he was playing his first year of Rugby League.

Another 'A Lil Somethin' button...

Found these uber cool Heidi Swapp stickers in my cleanout last night...these are like gold and are still my most favourite sticker ever!!!

My title and a closeup of my 'Charms Creations' flag banner...I LOVE these and still have lots more here to use, they are perfect for Cooper's footy colours as well as the kids school uniform.

I hope that you have some time in your world to get some scrapping done...I'm looking forward to getting more done this week and then from Thursday-Sunday at retreat...my DT girls Sara & Kerryn fly in tomorrow....ONE MORE SLEEP!!!  So many friends to catch up with this weekend, I can't wait!

Happy Scrapping xxx

August BIG Savvy Sketch Challenge

Only a day late....go me!!

This month I've used the sketch as one of my class pages.  I have local girls here every second Friday night for a class, in which they receive a kit and full step by step instructions for four layouts, which most of the girls actually get done on the night.  This week's class is a boy theme and I've had heaps of fun putting the class pages together.

Here's my layout of my boy Cooper and my bestie's little boy Oliver :)

And some closeups of those little details...

Loving FLAT alpha stickers at the moment!

Some little triangle arrows hand cut from scraps of patterned paper and doodled around the edges for effect...

And the good ol' rubon!  Don't use these babies enough, I have soooo many sitting in my stash!

Upload your take to the Scrapbook Savvy Gallery before midnight 31 August for your chance to win the super prize of $40 spending money plus FREE POST Australia wide.

Scrapbook Savvy 123 July Cybercrop Challenge

Welcome to our July Cybercrop!  We hope you find some time over the next week to get some layouts done for your collection, ensuring that your family’s memories are here forever!

My challenge this time is based on one of my class layouts, which I’m actually teaching tonight!  I hold classes in my home every fortnight, the girls walking away with four layouts done in just a few hours.  This is also making me scrap four layouts a fortnight, which is so fab as I’m finally getting through some of my older photos….like this one, taken in 2010!

My challenge is a 123 Challenge and you need to include the following criteria on your layout….

ONE tag
TWO flowers
THREE Circles

You also need to include a PATTERNED PAPER BACKGROUND and some WASHI TAPE somewhere on your layout.

Here is my layout, titled Scoops Icecreamery...

A closeup of my title, which I’ve curved around one of my circles.  Titles don’t always have to be straight!  You can see two of my ‘circles’ needed in the criteria…the other is the button in the cluster with the flowers.

A closeup of my washi tape, you will find lots more washi tape here in the store.

A close up of my ‘two flowers’ from the criteria as well as my tag.  You can create your own tag just cutting the tag shape out freehand, and punching a hole in the end

Your layout must be created ONLY for this challenge.

Please upload your layout by midnight Thursday 1st August 2013 to the Scrapbook Savvy Gallery.

Make sure you head over and check all the other challenges from the DT girls on the Scrapbook Savvy Blog.

Happy Scrapping!

Cheers,
Sar

Sar's Song Title Challenge - Savvy Cybercrop

Tonight marks the start of our June Cybercrop at Scrapbook Savvy on this wet rainy Friday in the Gong! The weather has been miserable here for a week....but hey, thats perfect for scrapping isn't it!!!

First challenge off the rank is mine...as I have the class girls here tonight as well, so getting everything done first! A different challenge for you tonight, not one I've done before....but taken from a layout I managed using a Midway Kit from the store, while I was off retreating last weekend.

My challenge is a SONG TITLE CHALLENGE and the MAIN criteria is for your layout title to be that of a SONG. Pick a song, any song, as long as I can Google it and find it IS an actual song!

I also want you to use the following criteria on your layout...

- a misted background
- glitter or glitter glue, even if only a little bit!
- at least one handmade embellishment

Here is my layout using all of the above, called 'I WANT CANDY'...

My journaling...

My WOW chipboard title which I've covered with Liquid Pearls painted on, and then Zazz Glitter Glue to give it some sparkle.

And one of the awesome chevies from Rainbow Splendour as my 'handmade embellishment' portion.

To be in the running for some Savvy spending money, upload your take using the challenge criteria to the Savvy Gallery before midnight next Thursday 4th July.

Happy Scrapping!

I was MEANT to reveal on the 15th...but honestly....did the first half of the month really fly by that fast?!

Anywhoooo....I'm here now and the sketch looks like this...

My take using a Storyboard Kit and some extras thrown in for good measure...

A closeup of my cluster including AC flowers, Prima flowers, twice, buttons, rubons, washi and more!  Sometimes you just have to keep adding...

Scrappy Weekend with Sara

I was lucky enough to have a visitor staying with me last weekend from QLD, my friend and fellow Savvy scrapper & kit designer Sara.

We had a great time, from Krispy Kremes to Savvy Class to Delights Crop to Evermore to cruisy couch time...we were just catching up and laughing a lot, and generally spending some time in real life instead of the facebook chat that usually sees us communicating each day.  The time flew and I was dropping her back to the airport before I knew it...but all going well she'll be back in just a couple of weeks to join me with the Scrapbook Savvy Store at Long Point Retreat.

So first up, we had a class here at Scrapbook Savvy on the Friday night.  My classes are now being held fortnightly and just about booking out before I get a chance to advertise them!  I'm loving sharing tips and techniques with my local girls, and they are loving getting FOUR pages guaranteed from just a few hours scrapping with me....along with the best coffee around, of course ;)

My class this time was Easter theme, and the class layouts looked like this...the first one was actually the May Cybercrop Sketch, a great way to start me on a roll when I'm working out class layouts!

All the girls had a great night and got their layouts completed, I LOVE making them get messy with inks and paints and templates, so fun!

On the Saturday Sara & I spent the day at my local scrapbook shop Scrapbooking Delights with San, it went so fast and I only managed two layouts on the day...but better than nothing!

The first is my layout for my upcoming June BIG Savvy Sketch reveal coming up on the 15th, here's a peek...

The next one was a 'just because' layout which I don't seem to do enough of!  This was pure fun and I love the layered washi background behind my photo...

A closeup of the gorgeous Prima flower I picked up from Delights with a cluster of flair, buttons & some Flourish With A Bling over some ribbon.

And the other cluster with some more flowers, journal spot and a gorgeous flair button from A Lil Somethin.

We went to see Evermore on the Saturday night, which was a great show although never long enough really!

This would've had to be my most favourite song of the night...

I also managed a few SMASH pages during our lazy Sunday, but you can check them out over on the Savvy blog here.

I am so grateful for the friends I've made online due to this scrappy life I've chosen for myself, people I never would have known or met in my 'real life'.

Until next time Miss Sara, I hope I got you inspired to get scrapping again and that you enjoyed your stay with me....I know I did xxx

See me SMASHed....

...not in the way you're thinking though!

I have started SMASHing my sister-in-law Karen's wedding, and have just posted all my pages so far on the Scrapbook Savvy Blog.

Head over and check it out, would love to know what you think!

Thanks for visiting, back soon with some more scrappy happiness :D

My May Cybercrop Colour Challenge @ Savvy

Tonight marked the beginning of our May Cybercrop at Scrapbook Savvy!  We have lots of challenges released tonight and some super awesome sales, all of which you'll find over on the Savvy blog.

This month I decided to give you a Colour Challenge, and because TODAY is my 10th wedding anniversary my inspiration board for the colour challenge is truly romantic! Love everything about this pic, but its the colours I want you to focus on…

So the colours we are using are…

- Pink & teal
- Add as much black, white & grey as you like!

My layout is totally NOT wedding related, but still gives you that soft pretty feeling of the inspiration given.

This page is called Little Star and features our little miss Georgia at age 3 in her dance class, she has loved dance and all that goes with it from the tender age of 2 years old.

A close up of some gorgeousness from Flourish With A Bling and a chip star from Pink Paislee.

And my title, put in the frame on the paper, and it fitted perfectly! Love when that happens!

Upload your take to the Scrapbook Savvy Gallery before midnight next Thursday 30 May 2013 for your chance to win some Savvy spending money.

Happy scrapping!!

BIG Savvy Sketch Challenge

It was my turn this month to design the BIG Savvy Sketch Challenge!

Lacking time, I didn’t have time to create a NEW layout as we usually do, taking inspiration from our Savvy Gallery. I instead chose a layout I created at a recent retreat, which was based on the ‘Delightful Technique Challenge’ given to us San from Scrapbooking Delights. The challenge will go back to normal next month, but cause I’m the boss lady I can change the rules this month, right…

The sketch designed from my layout by Sara, looks like this…

My layout is of my friend San at one of her halloween parties, and is called ‘The Good Witch’. I have used the October Afternoon Witch Hazel range, some of which is still available in the Savvy store here.

And of course, the obligatory closeups...

Love the shape stickers in this range, mount them on foam to make them pop!

The tin pins and brads are so great, teamed here with the mini market stickers in orange.

And my journal card, layered with a few journal sticker elements and the letter 'S' for San.

We have gone back to a 'random winner' system for our Sketch Challenge this month, giving EVERYBODY an equal chance to win!!

Head over to the Scrapbook Savvy Blog to see more takes on the sketch over the month.

Upload your layout to the Savvy Gallery by midnight 31 May 2013 for your chance to win.  Please complete a new and original layout for this challenge.

Thanks for visiting today!

Savvy Happenings!

So much happening at Savvy....where do I start?!

Head over here to the Savvy blog and find out what we're doing with our Design Team...one going, one staying, one changing their role...and two newbies just to bring us some excitement!  This is all in line with our recent forum closure and us now keeping everything on the Blog or Facebook page, keeping with the times we call it!

And just to keep the excitement rolling, we are cybercropping for a WEEK starting TODAY!

All the other challenges have started to be posted on the Blog and also on our Facebook Event if you want to check them out.

Here's mine...

This time I'm bringing you a Quote Challenge.  You must use the following quote somewhere on your page...be it your title, subtitle or even journalling, up to you!

'A Thing of Beauty is a Joy Forever'

And my take, a beautiful photo of my baby girl taken by my friend Loz from Red Door Photography.  I love the Swirly Garden template I've used with mist on the background, one of my faves!

My quote, using Thickers for the main words and OA Mini Market alphas for the smaller ones.

Loved this gorgeous Kaiser range that I actually picked up from my LSS Scrapbooking Delights, these word stickers had so many uses!

Upload your take to the Scrapbook Savvy Gallery by midnight next Thursday 2 May for your chance to win some Savvy spending money!!
